ROV

Subsea observation ROV overhaul

Challenge

An offshore operator needed to return an observation and inspection ROV to service after it showed intermittent failures in the onboard electronics, loss of thruster performance and degradation of the video system. Without a reliable vehicle, the subsea inspection operation was compromised.

Solution

BMPTECH carried out a full overhaul of the vehicle: diagnosis and inspection of the onboard electronics, recovery of the propulsion thrusters, restoration of the video system and replacement of the seals. Each subsystem was handled in a traceable way, with acceptance criteria defined before final assembly.

Outcome

The ROV underwent pressure and leak testing as well as functional testing before delivery, confirming seal integrity and subsystem performance. The vehicle was returned to the operator ready for subsea inspection work.

Manipulators

Recovery of seven-function subsea manipulator

Challenge

An offshore operator faced loss of function in a seven-function subsea manipulator used in a workclass ROV operation. Compromised hydraulic actuators and degraded seals took the arm out of service and prevented intervention tasks from being carried out.

Solution

BMPTECH performed inspection and controlled disassembly of the arm, repaired the hydraulic actuators, replaced the seals and restored the lost functions. The work was completed with calibration and functional pressure testing to confirm repeatable motion across all joints.

Outcome

The manipulator returned to operational condition with all seven functions restored and stable hydraulic response. The client put the equipment back in service without needing to procure a new arm.

Sonars

Side scan sonar board repair

Challenge

An offshore survey operator faced the downtime of a side scan sonar caused by a fault in its electronic board. Replacing the full assembly through the manufacturer meant high cost and a long import lead time.

Solution

BMPTECH carried out a component-level fault diagnosis, isolating the defective parts on the sonar electronic board. After replacing the components, the board went through bench testing to validate its operation before return.

Outcome

The board was recovered and bench validated, returning the sonar to operational condition without replacing the full assembly. The local repair avoided dependence on imports and manufacturer lead times.

Cameras

Subsea Full HD camera recovery

Challenge

An offshore operator lost the video feed from a subsea Full HD inspection camera due to an electronic board failure that disabled the entire imaging function. Full unit replacement was costly and not always feasible within a usable timeframe.

Solution

BMPTECH performed component level diagnosis and repair on the camera electronic board, isolating the fault and replacing only the affected components. The work followed a bench procedure with subsequent functional verification of the image.

Outcome

The imaging function was restored and the camera returned fit for inspection, avoiding a full unit replacement. The targeted repair preserved the client asset and kept field inspection capability available.

Sensors

Electrochemical potential probe for ROV

Challenge

An offshore operator needed to measure cathodic protection potential on subsea structures during ROV inspections, without relying on imported probes with limited supply and support. Integration with the vehicle and reliability in the subsea environment were critical requirements.

Solution

BMPTECH designed and manufactured an electrochemical potential probe (CP Probe) in-house, combining electronic, mechanical, and firmware engineering. The development covered the pressure housing, the signal acquisition electronics, and integration with the ROV system.

Outcome

The client gained a locally manufactured instrument for cathodic protection inspection, with full design ownership and direct technical support. The in-house solution reduced dependency on external suppliers and made maintenance and adjustments easier for the operation.

Systems

LARS winch with VFD drive and Level Wind

Challenge

An offshore operator needed a launch and recovery system able to handle the payload with precise speed and tension control, avoiding uneven cable spooling on the drum and reducing crew exposure during deck operations.

Solution

BMPTECH designed and manufactured the complete LARS winch, integrating variable frequency drive actuation for precise speed and torque control, an automatic Level Wind mechanism for orderly cable spooling and remote operation from a safe position. The work covered mechanical sizing, electrical integration and control logic.

Outcome

The operator gained more controlled and repeatable launch and recovery cycles, uniform cable spooling without manual intervention and remote operation that lowers risk to the deck crew.
