Onboard power and the DiveMesh network entering the umbilical
Surface unit that turns onboard power into supply for the submerged system and puts the DiveMesh network onto the umbilical.
The BUP-U500-001 is the unit that converts power from the vessel or the quay into the supply that travels down the umbilical. The input is bi-volt AC, and the unit accepts either mains voltage with no reconfiguration, which removes any adjustment when the system moves between vessel, quay or base from one mobilization to the next.
The output is DC, between 48 and 96 V, at up to 20 A. The voltage arriving at the bell is lower than the voltage leaving the surface, because the drop along the umbilical grows with cable length and shrinks with cable gauge. The output range makes it possible to compensate that drop and deliver usable voltage at depth on long umbilicals, without requiring heavier cable.
The same unit houses the DiveMesh surface modem, where communication enters the umbilical, and an internal gigabit switch. The DiveControl PC, the cameras and the other topside peripherals connect directly to the unit, with no additional rack equipment at the surface.
