Grinder

Cutting and fragmentation of materials in subsea operations

Subsea tool for cutting and fragmenting materials during underwater interventions, driven by ROV or a dedicated system.

The Grinder is a cutting and fragmentation tool developed by BMPTECH for subsea operations, designed to reduce and section materials during offshore interventions. The mechanical design, drive and control interface are developed in house, with integration to the ROV power system or a dedicated source depending on the operation. Construction prioritizes structural robustness and protection against water ingress in the driving components, sustaining consistent performance at depth and in environments with sediment and corrosion.

BMPTECH controls the full tool lifecycle: design, manufacturing at the Guaratiba facility with precision machining, assembly, validation in its own test tank, and field support. This makes it possible to tailor cutting geometry, drive and mechanical and electrical interfaces to each intervention profile, rather than adapting the operation to an off the shelf device.

Applications

  • Subsea interventions requiring cutting or sectioning of materials
  • Decommissioning and adaptation of subsea structures
  • ROV driven removal and fragmentation of field elements
  • Support for offshore operations where direct human access is not feasible

Key features

  • Cutting and fragmentation of materials in the subsea environment, built for structural robustness
  • Drive and control developed by BMPTECH, integrated with the ROV power system or a dedicated source
  • Sealing and protection against water ingress in the driving components
  • Cutting geometry and mechanical interfaces adaptable to the intervention profile
  • In house manufacturing with precision machining and test tank validation at the Guaratiba facility
  • Engineering support for integration, maintenance and field operation
